Case Study: Complexity

Propelling the space race. LD Redmer outpaces competition to deliver complex aerospace engine components. An aerospace customer was having trouble developing a newly-designed complex engine component and faced critical production deadlines coupled with high demand. They could not secure a reliable source for the new part and approached LD Redmer for help.

Simultaneously, four other manufacturing competitors suggested expensive design modifications that would make the parts easier for them to produce. Each change required engineering reviews, revisions, more testing, and other costly endeavors while the production lines continued to sit idle.

LD Redmer determined that the current design was “all systems go” and well within their capabilities to produce quickly. In only a few short days, the parts were running on a high-production CNC lathe.

The LD Redmer engineering team reviewed the drawings and provided feedback on potential changes to tolerances, inspection requirements, and part dimensions that would help reduce the cost and lead time.

The predicted usage of the components was large enough that the customer thought multiple suppliers were needed to keep up with demand. Once the LD Redmer samples were approved, the weekly output from a single machine exceeded the delivery requirements and Redmer became the sole supplier for future demand.
